Work Experience

North Birmingham Academy SMSC Day

On Wednesday October 8th 2014, over 200 Year 7 students from North Birmingham Academy worked with HealthTec as they took part in a simulated escape from a shipwreck as part of a Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural Development Day. The teamwork, leadership and logical skills of the students were pushed to the limit, as they worked in groups to complete a series of challenges throughout the day, to give them an opportunity to escape the desert island they had found themselves on. This included learning and demonstrating basic first aid, to ensure the well-being of their ‘injured’ fellow castaways. Their moral and ethical understanding was also tested, as they wrestled with ethical dilemmas such as how to interact with the other ‘tribes’ on the island, whether to allow the use of weapons, and how to share vital resources and equipment fairly.
